The Lismore Node of the SQNNSW Innovation Hub is contributing to catchment regeneration projects being managed by Rous County Council.
Rous’s Watershed Initiative has now commenced, with a focus on catchment restoration.
To complement the larger goals of Rous to improve water quality and biodiversity, Gavin from the Lismore Node has been installing a series of simple rock and timber structures in tributary streams that feed into the Wilson River in the Boat Harbour area.

This work includes wetland and riparian plantings to help slow and spread the flow of intense rainfall events and reduce soil and sediment loss from eroded gullies.
The work will also help to improve the function and habitat of the grazing landscape and provide shade for cattle.

The site will serve as one demonstration of simple steps that landholders can take to improve the resilience and productivity of their landscape and contribute to improving the health of the Richmond River catchment. Further work will commence in 2025.
The project is made possible by NSW Government funding of the Watershed Initiative, managed by Rous County Council with the cooperation of motivated local landholders.
