Farmers across the North Coast are increasingly asking questions about how they can improve their pasture diversity.
What plant species should we use? What varieties and combinations? What are the best planting methods and management techniques?
Examples and advice from other climate zones and landscapes aren’t always suitable to the NSW North Coast’s high summer rainfall environment and the challenges of managing tropical pastures.
A collaboration between Landcare and the Lismore Node of the Southern Queensland and Northern NSW Innovation Hub has led to the release of a new publication, Introduction to Multi Species Pastures on the North Coast.
It is hoped this publication will help local producers of all scales make better decisions about improving and managing pasture diversity. It will provide a solid starting point for producers, agronomists and advisors.
We are seeking feedback from producers and advisors about ways to improve the content in this publication, and its presentation, to suit all graziers.
If you would like to provide feedback, please email gavin.tinning@scu.edu.au
We hope to produce an updated version later in 2025.
The publication owes a lot to the work of Border Ranges Richmond Valley Landcare and collaboration with producers and advisors across the Northern Rivers.
This project has received support from the SQNNSW Innovation Hub. The Hub is funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.
