Making Northern Rivers Net Zero!

The Northern Rivers is set to become one of the first carbon net zero regions in Australia, if local backing is received for the new ‘Northern Rivers Net Zero’ project.

Driven by the Northern Rivers NSW Steering Committee, The Casino Food Co-op and Southern Cross University, Northern Rivers Net Zero aims to bring together all local industry sectors with the shared goal of developing emissions mitigation strategies, creating a thriving low carbon culture, and implementing necessary change at scale.

In addition to benefiting from the outcomes of these mitigation strategies, and the connections made in the process, industry will also benefit from the social capital that comes with such an achievement. This achievement would strengthen the local community and the ‘produced in the Northern Rivers’ brand story.

Nathan Kempshell, Project Manager Northern Rivers Net Zero

“As a 100% community driven project it will foster a sense of pride in our local produce and businesses, which in turn will amplify loyalty to the local industries,” said project manager Nathan Kempshell. “The flow on effect will increase our standard of living and the wellbeing of our communities and landscapes.”

The project spans from Tweed Heads to Grafton, with sectors including: agriculture, energy, waste and transport.

To get involved please contact Nathan and circulate the NORTHERN RIVERS NET ZERO FLYER to organisations and individuals who you think would be interested in becoming a partner.
